Do You Need Hearing Aids?

Find out when hearing aids could improve your ability to hear those around you.

Most people assume hearing loss is something that only seniors deal with; however, hearing loss can happen for various reasons regardless of age. Since hearing loss is often gradual, you may be dealing with some degree of hearing loss and not even know it. That’s why it’s good to recognize the warning signs of hearing loss early so you can speak with our Sun City West, AZ, ENT doctors and audiologists about whether hearing aids could help you.

What Are the Warning Signs of Hearing Loss?

Hearing loss isn’t always sudden, so you may not even notice that you’re beginning to have trouble hearing until it’s more advanced. Some of the signs of hearing loss include,

  • Feeling as if people are often mumbling around you
  • Asking people to repeat themselves often
  • Having to turn the TV or radio up to hear it
  • People complaining that your headphones are too loud
  • Not hearing your phone ring
  • Having trouble understanding people on the phone
  • Reading lips to understand what people are saying
  • Difficulty understanding people in loud, noisy environments
  • Feeling left out of conversations or having trouble following what people are saying
  • Avoiding social occasions and events

While children between the ages of two and ten will get regular hearing screenings from their pediatrician, if you are noticing any changes to your hearing or the hearing of a loved one, it’s time to turn to our Sun City West, AZ, ENT team for a hearing screening and hearing aid consultation.

Could a Hearing Aid Help You Hear Better?

When an individual is dealing with hearing loss, a hearing aid is often the most recommended device to improve a person’s ability to hear certain sounds and frequencies. It’s important to note that hearing aids will not cure your hearing loss but will make it easier to hear certain sounds and voices.

Since hearing aids improve hearing, you may also find that it improves your balance, which can benefit seniors or adults at risk for falls. It usually takes an individual about six months to get acclimated to their hearing aid, so the more regularly and often you use it, the better. Only using it for a few hours a day won’t provide the full benefit.
